First, I always remember this cat decanter on our bar since I was a little girl growing up in Massapequa, NY. I would just like some information about it as I search the website and had no luck. I know the picture isn't that clear so I will describe more details about it. It is 9" tall, has a red cap on and red and yellow stripe pajamas. Also has a bottle in one hand and glass in the other. No Markings. The name of the music is: "Let's Have A Night Cap". Because I had no luck finding the decanter itself., I started searching for the music. I found a musician name "Cootie Williams" that did this song in the 40's, but I am not even sure if it has any connection with him. Does anyone know anything about it?

I have this exact same cat decanter that I was given as a keepsake when my nan died. She had it on her bar when I was small.
It is at least fifty years old but know nothing else about it.
I presumed she bought it on a holiday but not sure, we are in Essex U.K.

      Hi wendyak,
That's so funny, because I know we had it in our house on our bar ever since I was small too. I believe it is definitely from the 50's or 60's. I had look on the internet for the longest time searching for one like it. The only thing I came up with is the name of the artist music(Cootie Williams) I think???? I was born and rise in NY.

      Hi Kathy
Isn't it strange that we are so far away and know nothing of the origins.
My nan never went to the USA but travelled to Spain quite a bit in the 60s and 70s from our local airport(Southend).
She often used to sing the song that plays on the decanter to the grandchildren as a joke, she knew every word.......she was born in 1911 so has long since passed so cannot ask her.
      Regards Wendy

      Hi Wendy,
It's sure is a mystery. The only other thing I can think of is my grandmother was French. She was born in 1890, and also has long pass on. Maybe she got it somewhere??? What a nice memory to have of your grandmother. Does the one you have, have words? Mind is only music. I would love to know the words.
      Have a wonderful Day! Kathy

      Hi Wendy,
That's strange. The one I have plays: "Let's Have a Night Cap". Kathy

Thank you AmberRose for the love.

If you look on utube you will find people singing show me the way to go home, thats the tune on mine, I think its the same melody, different lyrics.

      Wendy,
I am totally confused. Tell me exactly what your "Title" on your "Decanter" say. You may be right about the different lyrics, but I just would like to know if the Title is the same as the one above on my decanter. "Let's Have a Night Cap".
      Thanks Kathy

Hi sorry for the late reply, been sunning myself in Spain!
My cat is identical to yours with the same "lets have a nightcap" on the base, I will get my son to post a pic.
      regards wendy
