This is a BIG BEAM U-C Lite Manufacturering Co. No. 111 flash light. I found it at a Thrift Store in Robersonville, NC, paid $10.00 for it, the bad thing about it is it is only worth $5.00. The good thing about it is it works great!

It's not true that it's only worth $5. You paid $10 for it and I probably would have too, so that makes it worth at least $10 in some places.

Oh memories! Had one of these in the house growing up, if there was a strange noise outside (wooded property) Dad would go out with the Big Beam flashlight to take a look. That sucker could shine all the way up into the tall trees.

Neat, actually my Father, was instrumental in creating this as well as other models. The Company was owned by the Talbot Family, he worked for them, and he created the Dies, from which the lamps were struck. Additionally, these lamps, were carried by Police and Fire Fighters.
My father worked for them, for some time. I today, have three different models. The model shown here, is much older than what the picture indicates. It actually goes back to the early 1950's . The 1970's, had a switch located on the Box. In addition; there were other models, one in particular, that also had a Red Flashing Light attached to the Handle. It would swing up, to form a perpendicular Upright Flashing Red Light. Bigger Lights, were carried on Fire Trucks.
It's a really neat light.
CIA is right. Yours is from the early 1950s and is worth more than $5 if it's in excellent condition. The Patent was approved in 1953 and subsequent models had that written on them where yours says pat pend, so yours is pre-1953 at any rate.
U C Lite was founded by my Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Joseph F. and C. G. Talbot. My father, Joe Jr. was the last Talbot to run the company before it was sold to Teledyne. As a kid we had these lanterns all around us, but as an adult I try to collect as many as I can.
The family history runs deep.
