i purchased this many years ago along with some other similar pieces at a yard sale in san francisco. anyone have any idea what it is or who it was made by? the owner didn't know anything about it, but said that it had belonged to her deceased husband. i have never seen anything quite like it. i'm very curious about it though.
here's some more pics. i have more of them too.
I am not sure either about this, but I love it.
does anyone have any suggestions on where i should go online to research this? i have several of them and they are all similarly distinct. i should be able to find some info on this particular style - at least the general era / style of it.
I use Len Woods for anything I have questions about. But I collect Native American and I am not sure this is. But it could not hurt to try it and see what they say . They give you 5 free appraisals and you can send pictures. You can also ask them questions as to country it was made from, type, ect. The online addy is indianterritory.com. When you get to the home page, look down the page below "enter online catalog". You will see some things in parentheses, and the last one is "services". Click on that and under the options in parentheses on that page, you will see "free appraisals". Click on that and it will tell you how to get in touch with them and what to send them. It works, I have used them many times. and even if your item is not Native American maybe they can point you in the right direction. Good luck with your search!
thanks alot tlynnie1942. i'm going to try it now. i'm certain that they are from somewhere in mesoamerica - probably mexico, guatemala, belize, but i really want more info. thanks for the tip. i'll let you know what happens.
It looks mesoamerican. I think the best option would be to find an anthropologist for advice. I’m sure they would have the best answers on what it is and where it came from.
Thank you Williamhaney86!
