I found this along with many other great items this past weekend at a yard sale for $1. After research, it's either original Mary Gregory or the style of. I really like it a lot. Just another nice addition to my collections.
Oh, I also want to add that in the pontil on the bottom is the number 4 with a period after (4.).
Glad you like it Toolate:).
The number 4 refers to the matching of the stopper on the ewer. It should also have a 4 underneath. They did this at the factory to match the stopper size to the bottle. Your decanter is undoubtedly an old one but check to see if you can discern dots in the enameling...old ones did not have dots. Probably Bohemian in origin. LOU
Thanks Lou- I will check out the enameling and get back to you.
There are no dots in the enameling from what I can tell.
So pretty!
I have to admit that Mary Gregory is not my favourite, but it is a nice shaped claret jug of a shape that was common in the 1880-90s. 90% of the value of glass claret jugs is in the handle, one crack and your 90% just evapourated, so treat it with care.
