A customer brought these forks into my store and asked me to find out any information I can on them. I've been digging but can't find any references pertaining to these hallmarks. Apparently the forks were given to him by his late mother and he doesn't recall the history behind them.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Its made by Daniel & Arter
There is a lot of their pieces for sale on the web. You should be able to pull the rest of the info you need fairly easy.

Love the simplicity of this design! I don't know much about the dating system for silver plate, but this link:
      http://www.silvercollection.it/ENGLADANIEL&ARTER.html
shows the first 3 marks as those on your forks (crown over D&A, the globe and that weird little double fluer de lis thingy that may be some sort of anchor symbol for Birmingham) just a little over halfway down the page. The letter and number are probably date or pattern marks, but I can't tell you for certain. If I can find out anything specific about the dates of your forks, I'll post it here. They opened around 1882 in Birmingham and they went out of business in 1930, as Bellin already noted. I'll be anxious to find out about the dating system used.

I found a site that has what I think is your set. If it's correct, it was discontinued Circa: 1882 To see it, check here:

I must apologize for not thanking everyone for their info on this post so long ago. I completely forgot about asking for help with these forks! I'm so sorry. I really do appreciate everyone's response and I do agree with you Manikin! Thanks for the help!
