My all time Favourite Georgian Mourning Ring.
This Fabulous piece of Georgian Mourning Jewelry dates from 1798 the inscription on the reverse being for the Wilkinson Family.
The domed Rock Crystal cover gives an amazing depth to the image which is intricately painted with macerated hair pigments, watercolours and embellished with Gold wire and the tiniest imaginable natural seed pearls.
The image in typical Georgian Mourning style shows an exquisitely beautiful weeping lady mourning next to a pillared tomb which bears an inscription, the symbolic Weeping Willow in the background made from strands of the deceased persons hair.
In fabulous original condition this was a superb piece and with the original Georgian Rose Gold Shank often pieces like this have been altered over the ages brooches converted to rings and such like. So nice when something is in original authentic condition.
NB. this item was part of my past collection and is not available for sale.
Quite extraordinary and beautiful! miKKo
