i have quite a few different fu dogs in my collection, but i think this one is very special. it is solid bronze, crafted incredibly well, and is definitely old. the originals of these are guarding the gates at Yangxin in the Forbidden City. I know that these are still cast today - apparently in california, as well as china, but i think that this one is at least 100 yrs old - by the remnants of the gilding and the patina and quality. i'd love to hear what other people think. it stands 20" tall.

well you have to know and size and the weight , the older ones are mostly solid casts

do me a favour count the mitla motif on the pedestal 21 i believe , than i can do the math myself probably
    9. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 4 years ago
apostata - there are 118 mitla motifs on it. about 4 of them are partially hidden by the triangle drapery.
    10. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 4 years ago
6 of them are partially obscured by the drapery.

this is an excellent copy, not the origional , the inclination of the claws is different and the collar is different cloud and thunder motif up and under the lotus petals, lets say the hingis between the lotus petals layers is present, some rather strange shallow coating , it looks to me as a solid cast , rather refined this is value,

i don,t know what happened , because it ought to contain a number for export purposes , i think its made around 1910 but i am just guessing , as a guard of a goverment building
    14. apostata apostata, 4 years ago
maybe some early Yunhao mould, still remains value , because it,s a solid cast

i just saw these last couple comments apostata. sorry about that. if this were solid cast, i don't think i could lift it. it's 20 inches tall.

i sold almost all my Asiatic bronzes, most of them were very mediocre and cheap stuff , but one was my best sale ever an 4 faced fang ding
I got one fang ding copy left nickle and dime stuff ( a few hundred dollars ) because the cat is sleeping in it on a pillow, the weight is 19,7 kilo,s,

i got a certification for Asiatica, but I don't know anything about 90% of Asiatics
so i don,t assess , but a lot of so called experts do because it is easy money
