Found this old sword at my Mom's house. Her dad bought it at an auction. In the sheath there was a note, that we can't quite read. Awesome find right in Cedar Rapids, IA!

If anybody can help me with some information on this sword, please comment!

Looks like a fairly modern low value sword based on the scans. It is also missing the hilt (Tsuba) and associated parts which will also hurt the value.

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate the input. How do I find out of it is made from a famous blade maker?

Before taking it apart look at the blade and ensure it is hand forged-- pretty easy to tell and will save you a lot of time (no need to take it apart if it isn't hand forged).

AR, by modern I do mean 1930's-WWII during which time they made some very low quality swords. Based on the scans the scabbard and handle do look older but not very fancy. The note probably means blade is signed and the owner should have it checked out. There is a Japanese Sword Society and I would bet they can be found on google.

      Agree militarist-- appears modern.
