I found this old reel at an estate sale. I have others that are similar, but this is is by far the heaviest and most unique. It is filled with breaded copper or brass line and is made from aluminum. The reel was made in Detroit, and Has the words "Balanced" Trolling Reel 12139 Woodbine Detroit 23 Mich. I am trying to find more info on the reel. The address is still occupied , but I don't think by the manufacturer of the reel. I will be checking out the old fisherman in the area to see if I can find out more info.
I love it as a design object - wonderful!
Mystery solved. My grand father made these. Claude Kinsey. More info to come soon.
How do you post a picture on a comment reply. I have one still and a news paper article about it from 1953
Hi buster58:
Unfortunately you can't post a picture on a comment reply, but you can post a link to a picture. For example, you could post a photo as a new Show & Tell, and then leave a link to it in a comment.

This link is for more information on the reel.
Thanks Ben
Thanks guys. Buster your Grandfather built a very heavy duty real. I am glad you still have one of his masterpieces, if you didn't I would offer you mine. I always look for different types of reels and fishing equipment. It is nice to finally know more about this reels origin and it couldn't have come from a greater source. I had pretty much given up on finding information on the reel, it has been three years since the original post. I am grateful.
