Decanters are out of fashion. Now is the time to buy! They crop up every now and then for a song. This one came my way a couple of years ago at a flea market. I could not resist the stopper! It is beautifully thin and accurately ground. It is a pleasure to hold. The decanter’s rings fit snugly around the fingers; the decanter itself is not too large and not so expensive to fill!
Good small Georgian barrel shaped decanter with three plain neck rings separated by cut broad flutes over broad shoulder flutes and basal narrow hollow comb flutes. Cut facetted disc stopper.

Don't own one myself, but its the neck rings that do it for me :) They are just so elegant.

This is a prussian shaped decanter c.1810. The stopper is lunar cut lozenge stopper c.1770-1790, so would not have started life with this decanter, but would have gone with a tapered decanter with no rings. I totally agree, decanters are a great bargain, that's why I have hundreds. If you ever break the decanter, that stopper has it's own value.

What u think is this 1880-1910 period?
    19. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
Much earlier JOE! The stopper dates to 1770 to 1790 as lovedecanters mentions above. The decanter is later by thirty years.
      It was a marriage.

Thank you mate. I just love those stoppers. They are so thin and tactile. A great pleasure in themselves.
