    (2 items)

My mother passed away two years ago. This is one of the items (of many, many items) I found in a box. I've looked on the internet, but can't tell if this is the real deal or a replica. It has McCoy on the bottom and I do remember seeing this around the house when I was little. Any input on this Aunt Jemima/Mammy cookie jar is greatly appreciated. I will be creating another posting of several Aunt Jemima/Uncle Moses items from F&F Mold and Dye Words in Dayton, Ohio. I only know this is who made them because it's on the bottom of some of the items. Any assistance in determining if my mother knew what she was doing or if these are fakes are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for the response. It has been such a daunting task going through all of these boxes. Now I have about 10-15 boxes of old bottles, jars, dishes to go through. I will continue to use this site due to the quick response and helpfulness of kind people on this site.

Looks like an old one. There have been lots of reproductions out over the past few years. From the looks of the jar it is one of the originals. Newer ones were about 8 to 12% smaller. This mammy style jar was one of the icons for the collectors to look for several years ago. Also there is a mammy scoop to match it, beware on the reproductions on the scoop. They are out there in droves.
Looks like crackle staining in the bottom. Another clue to the staining, Open up this jar and smell, If you smell crayons in this jar, there is probably where the staining came from. Lots of folks stored them in there and do ask me why. If crayon odor is present, a good thing to do is air it good. Don't put in bleach water as the cold paint will come off. Orig cold paint adds to its value. You might ask an old cookie jar collector. They will know for sure. Any damage also reflects on value. Have seen them sell cheaper if damaged and in good condition will bring the best price if no damage or repairs.

You have an original. The cold paint was only done on the "real McCoys". These CJs used to be worth $200 and up in good condition. Unfortunately, the values are way down right now and yours is in pretty rough shape, but it seems like it is full of great memories and that's what really matters.
