Linhof was an interesting company. Your camera is one of the Prazisions-Cameras. It is a name that was applied to all Linhof cameras made from 1910 to 1936; after which "Standard" and "Technika" models were introduced. Your particular camera appears to be one of the 'square' Prazisions-Cameras. All of the cameras were pretty much the same and differentiated by the format size (in cm). It would help if you could measure the ground glass. For example, is it 4.5 x 6 cm, or 10 x 15 cm, or ...? Value is definitely dependent on the format.
thank you for your reply, being total rookies, we aren't sure how to measure the glass. sorry. this is our first camera, and new at this.
Simply measure the length and width of the viewing port at the back of the camera - in centimeters. It's the rectangular opening that you see when the rear viewing hood is opened.
measures 8 1/2 x 6 centimeters.
That's good. The standard format was 6.5 x 9 cm. The glass plate would have measured this size. The reason your measurement is 1/2 cm smaller on each side is because the plate had to be held in place. I was hoping this was the 4.5 x 6 cm camera because it's very uncommon in the smallest size. The Compur shutter was introduced in 1912; so I estimate the camera's age as somewhere around 1912 - 1920 (difficult to pin down). Average value is around $125 - $275 (but near the low end) based on the condition. Value would be lower if the shutter is not operational.
