Wedgwood Blue Jasper Dip
Bud Vase 'Poor Maria'
Dated: 1886
The Vase is approx 2.75"/7 cm in diameter and 5"/13 cm tall.
This is a pretty bud vase in Wedgwood's lovely blue. The classical vignettes show 1.) a woman weeping with a dog beside her 2.) a man with a dog 3.) a cupid with a harp 4.) a cupid with a scroll.
The height is 4-7/8". It is marked on the base: "Wedgwood" and "England" separated. There is a impressed date marks “0” for specificity, so I must date it to 1886.
The condition is excellent. There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
1886!! I just parted with one of these for $13. OOPS!! But mine was green. Not knowing anything about wedgwood I guess the person who now has it is one happy customer!!!!!!!!! I will post a pic for you :-)
The 'Poor Maria' vase was made for a long time. This one is a early vase, as it was Wedgwood dip...the color is not throughout the vase. If you notice the rim at the top is white. I have this also in the Wedgwood bule. It also comes in yellow, dark blue, green, and red.
Hi Scruples - you are a wealth of information!! I posted up my green vase for you to have a look at :-) to compare.
We have the same but in black basalt and ours has an X on the base?
not sure what that means but thank you for naming the pattern
