    It's signed in the upper left corner 'Hawass 69'. I found this original painting in the trash and think it's kind of nice as a mid-century modern look at Arabic women. I imagine the artist is probably an arab/american - maybe egyptian or lebanese. The painting is about 3' x 14". Do people think it's good or interesting?

      The crescent and the five stars perhaps suggests Singapore?

      The name "Hawass" is I suppose Egyptian. Searches using it will inevitably give you hits involving Dr. Zahi (Zawi, Zaahi, Zaki ) Hawaas, former Egyptian Minister of Antiquities. Good luck!

      thanks everybody! i really just stuck it on top of my heater for a few wks many months ago - when i took the photo. no thought really went into it at all. my little house [500 sq ft] is chock full of interesting things i've collected and i have two warehouses full of stuff which i occasionally dig out and circulate thru my house. i kind of do 'exhibits' when i feel like it. i think that it is just my way of proving i'm not a hoarder!

      Ahhh, so you and I have things in commom huh? lol...I find stuff that way sometimes. The people around here set it out NEXT to their trash...

      I think it's pretty cool too and the artist did a great job.

      i'm always finding things in the trash - particularly when people move out of the neighborhood. recently i found two items in my neighbor's trash which i wiped down and put up on ebay and they went for almost $400.

      I just added some more photos. i don't know why, but i hadn't turned the painting over to look at the back in years. it actually says the painting is by 'Bill Hawass' and even gives his address in Las Vegas. The painting is signed on the front 'Hawass 69'. Everytime i do a search on 'Hawass' or even 'Bill Hawass', i just get a million results about Zahi Hawass. I'm not getting anywhere, so i thought i'd put it out to CW again.

      i don,t think it has something to do with Singapore, , i think it is the overall Ottoman,s periode symbol, i am a mustashar and most of the time i recognize the chadors with the undercloth, so i ran nose bridges on Berber tribal symbols could not find it either

      so i ran , the ruling of embellishment according surah 33.59 ( tassels chador hajaba etc), can,t find this

      so you need an arabist, may be a sort of Iran , Egyption maybe , i am just guessing
      i love the painting

      chador = hijab
