    Victoriank…
    (5 items)

I found this mannequin years ago poking around in a basement of a large Victorian estate. I was hunting with a flashlight in a crawl space off of the basement when I came across this object that startled me. The dim lighting made me think it was a dead body at first sight! I carried it upstairs to pay for it and people were laughing at it asking me why would I want such a thing! The people collecting the money told me to take it at NO CHARGE!
The mannequin was attached to a board that had rotted from being under the house. My wife repalced the back board, cleaned, dressed and added jewelry. She now hangs in my garage and has been quite a conversation piece.

Really Cool! Did the mannequin have any clothes or painted clothing underneath? Is her hair detachable?
    5. Victoriankitty Victoriankitty, 14 years ago
She had white linen clothing in about the same style but they were in really bad condition. My wife replaced all of the clothing.

Thanks....that's what we thought it might be!
I forgot to answer your other question, the hair is attached at the top of the head.

      How tall is she ?
    9. Victoriankitty Victoriankitty, 11 years ago
I sorry Manikin, I didn't see your question. She is 39" from her toes to her head.
Do you know what she might be worth?? Thanks for the question!

I am sorry I long forgot this post . She has collapsed that is her body melted from the rubber in the material used to make her . I would guess she is 30" not counting raised arms . She would have been a store display and on a counter modeling a sample size of clothes . These mannequins because of WWII different materials were tried on them as the war needed most of the rubber ect . So many of the mixtures did not hold up well and you get the deformity you see on your girl . She deserved to be saved but her value to a collector would not be very high because of condition . I would like to see her on a stand not hanging . Her face is still beautiful and she has a look that could attribute her to Margit Nilsen as the artist . Heat and moisture are her enemy to preserve keep from drastic room temperature change . Her feet have also collasped downward they would have been flat at one time Or she was made for a display as a ballerina . Does she have holes in bottom of feet ?

Thanks Manikin! Your right she has collapsed, she has a steel rod coming out of her back, its bent down like she was hung on a stand or wall mount. No holes in her feet. She looks like she was made to look like she was laying down, almost like she was laying on a beach?
