Also from my grandfathers tool box. as you can tell the bits and brace haven't been used in a long time. If I remember right my grandfather ordered this set from a 1918 Sears,Roebuck and Co catalog.

No 9v, 12v, or 18v battery pack here! Just one rechargeable armstrong (get it, arm strong).

Me too,I still have a old Makita 7.2v for light work and a Craftsman 12v professional. The one that takes the cake is a corded Milwaukee magnum holeshooter with a 1/2" chuck, if your not careful it will rip your arm off.

I learned how to do carpentry with a set like that, a couple of handsaws, some old chisels, and a lot of sweat. Forty years later my right bicep is still bigger than the left from all the drilling and sawing. I can say that nothing teaches you respect for grain, density, and the unique character of wood than working with it using hand tools. I love my power tools, but appreciate the lessons a brace and bit taught me.

Dave, As a telephone lineman I drilled many holes into telephone poles to hang hardware with a brace and bit like this. The augar bits were longer up to 24 inches.
