In honour of my little, local Olympics and last night's opening ceremony (and the fact we didn't mess it up ...), a little piece of award-winning British glass I've been saving for you - a Thomas Webb bronze vase.
We have seen a fair bit of Webb before, not least Austrohungaro's fantastic piece, but I felt it was appropriate as Webb took the only glass grand prix at the Paris exhibition in 1878 - the first time this glass was exhibited. That and the trophy shape - I just couldn't resist!

PS - apologies for the picture - I've been too busy to do better, I'm afraid.

Mr Romney? Who is this Mr Romney? Oh, a candidate. Hmm. Yes. Well I suppose we should be grateful he's noticed we exist ... geography doesn't seem to be a strong point with Republican candidates, let alone geopolitics!
Thank you Czechman - we're glad you enjoyed it! Your best bit?

You did a great job with the opening! Are you going to any of the events? I have lots of friends over there and I am so jealous. Of course I was thrilled when Chicago did NOT get the games. What a mess that would be!

I absolutely agree with Amber... it was a relief (twice LOL) when they didn't choose Madrid for the games, but our majors keep on trying it... :/ Perhaps if I was single and in my 30s I'd be thrilled LOL

Thank you Austro - and you're very welcome. I love your piece! At least it wouldn't have rained so much if the Olympics had been in Madrid!

Thank you AmberRose - glad you liked it! It was a bit of a worry if the rest of the world would get it - it was so British! Our best man is married to Ken Branagh's sister, so we've been enjoying all the behind the scenes gossip too!
We were both pleased and horrified to get the games - what a chance to screw up! Not so far though - I was actually there when you posted, the organisation was great, and even the transport coped! We still have swimming, diving, fencing and gymnastics to come - the result of 2 Olympics mad small boys. Fingers crossed it carries on ok!

I hope as with all trophies you gave this beauty an adoring kiss!......:-)

Handball, Scandi. Not as odd a choice as it may seem, when you consider I needed 10 tickets to see something in the Olympic Park at the weekend to satisfy all the family that descended on me! The only other choice was hockey and that's outside - need I say more? Actually, handball was fantastic to watch live, fast, physical, and tactical with amazing ball control. It was great!
Your addiction sounds perfectly understandable to me!

      Thank you inky!
I'm British - can't possibly admit to any overt displays of emotion ... ; )
