Here's some more images of it. do you like the old frame? i'm looking for something cool to put in it. thanks so much mikko for looking into it. i've got the spoon packed up, but don't have time to send it till tomorrow.
I am embarrassed that I don’t remember more German. I’m trying to fill in where Tony left off.
'The Little Orchard planted with the most beautiful devotions for Catholic Christians'. (Tony, I could not read the sixth word, so I am taking your word on it! How does that look to you?) ‘With the permission of the superior’...as per Tony.
First devotion displayed is a Marian devotion.
The second devotion is entitled "Morning Devotion".
Beautiful prayer book. Not a bible.
It’s traditional to cite permissions in Catholic devotional literature. Follows a link to some rules for printed Catholic devotional literature. miKKo

Wow, love the frame! Just beautiful!
I just saw your note about the ladle. You are too good, sir! Thank you so much!!! : ) You have a surprise coming your way, too. Might elicit a startled grin when you see it. Despite your facility for finding exceptional and most unusual antique books and illustrations, I think you'll probably not have seen this item before. I'll give you two hints - it's perhaps 130 years old, and it's from London. Thanks again! miKKo
So sorry, Tony. I am useless, I fear. I know the word for 'onion'. I remember calling my brother an onion. 'Du bist eine zwiebel.' Will that help? No? Sorry, once upon a time, I could summon forth the polite small change conversation, and even manage good grammar in that limited realm. However, I could never really master German, no not even close. You're the man tonight.....miKKo
Yes, schonsten makes sense. I need to consult a real German dictionary. Those online ones aren't quite the same. I am not happy at all with what I've come up with. Still needs more work.
thanks everyone. i'm glad that it is inciting so much interest. personally, i really like santos and religious wall items - bleeding hearts and thorny crowns. i have a really, really beautiful, large ... i don't know what they're called. it's a large religious print - some devotional thing... will post pics later...
