I'd love to know more about this lamp too. I purchased it about 15 years ago at an antique store up in Guerneville, CA. I'd like to know how old it is and whether it's collectible or even usable. i just liked the shape, color and style of it. Sort of semi-deco / semi-industrial look to it. ??

It's quite unique, the upper housing looks like it is made to dissipate heat, is there a ballast in it?
    3. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 12 years ago
i'm not sure what that means. it's not that heavy, so maybe not?

A ballast is a type of power supply to bring the voltage up for a bulb such as mercury vapour, or metal halide, they can get quite warm.
By the cord & decorative finial on top, & what looks like a standard bulb socket, it is definitely not original.
It still has a great look to it.
      Hope that answers your question

thanks walksoftly. that's very useful info. i knew i'd seen them around before, but couldn't place it. 1stdibs is a great site for finding comps at high retail price, don't you think? also for generally obscure, but interesting pieces.
