I have one of these watkins bottles mine looks older than pictured. I know this company is still in business.

I have one of these Watkins bottles, mine has the word trademark across the top. I also have a "Woods" pepermint cure bottle, it is advertised in aa old San Francisco cronicle from late 1800's that I possess. Does any on have any information on this? Bottle is blue 3 piece mold hand blown.

These bottles were mass produced by many companies in the 1890's into the 1920's and 30's. Once thought to be a rare find, not so much. The communication and links provided by companies like eBay show that lot's of people collected these or find them in old attics and garages. People of this era saved things especially up into the "Great Depression."
These bottles held all kind of products ranging from "Snake Oil" sold by unscrupulous companies to medicines and lotions. While there are some rare bottles out there, your bottle is not among them. Blue bottles or other colored bottles are more valuable to collectors.
Bottles that had paper labels would be more valuable too, depending on how well the label is preserved. Additionally, different manufacturers also sold their products in these types of bottles in decorative, descriptive and alluring boxes. A box and bottle with a good label would be more rare.
One last little speck of info. Some of these old bottles contained combinations of ingredients including alcohol, opium and radio active water. Care should be taken with bottles that contain any residue or liquids.
To even begin to list all the products or companies that sold "cures" or just simply hand and body lotions would fill more than one book.
      Regards, Jack

hold on there vikingfan, it depends on how the bottle was made is how to date the bottle. If it was machine made, it was made after 1912, if hand blown, it was made before 1910.

this bottle looks to be ABM. most likely made between 1915-1925. Rydnkitty, don't think it's a 3 part mold. if it is, it dates from 1860's onto the 1870's. If you think it's identical to this one, it shouldn't be 3part mold. Could be a common BIM, made in the late 1890's or early 1900's.

Wow, thank you all for the info. To help out with the dating of this bottle, here are some more facts; The bottle has two definate seems, on the bottom of the bottle there is a diamond with a X inside of it, I think it's an X. Also there is the number 10. Both the number 10 and the diamond look like the letters - raised. Any help? Bubba

x diamond logo is a mystery, you could be mistaking it maybe for a V, or M, or even a W. W in a diamond is Whitney Glass Works, Glassboro, NJ (1882-1918). M is unknown, but has been seen on perscription bottles from the 1890's. V in a diamond has never existed. the number ten is the mold number used to maked the bottle.

like I said, maybe post WWI, or even during.
    11. BubbasTreasures BubbasTreasures, 14 years ago
It could be a W inside the diamond. Do you know about the number 10? Thanks so much
    12. cocacolakid97 cocacolakid97, 14 years ago
10 was the mold number, so if there was a defect, they could fix or just throw away the mold.

I have a bottle just like this. In my research I found it should be date about 1920, though I'm still lokking for more info. I also believe it to be machine manufactured. It is indeed a medicine bottle. I love it since I use to sell Watkins.

cocoalakid thanks for the imput.....on the Watkins bottle it isnt exactly like yours, the top where the cork goes in isn't rounded on edges it is more 90* angle top is flat. there is a backwards 47 on bottom of the bottle. and there are air holes in the glass I wonder if you know about the Woods great peppermint cur ???
