Could probably use a new finish?? Don't even THINK of polishing them, you'll remove more than half of the value

thank you! any idea of value or how to find out?

The easiest way to find the value of an antique is to search eBay's completed listings for comparable pieces

Here is one that has a chrome finish. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/17768533_art-deco-electric-lamp

Thanks everyone. I've checked ebay w/no "comps." I find the shape interesting, but agree that it's probably worth what someone is willing to pay. So, they sit in my garage and take up space : /

Johann...I emailed the auctioneer...thanks for that!

These lamps were designed for GE by Viktor Schrekengost and manufactured by CP. VS did four designs for them-a horse, a Chinese man, a lady head and these intertwined bodies. PhilDavid is correct in that there were a couple of bases and they tended to mix and match parts. Unfortunately the base you have is the least complimentary to the sculpture and least art deco looking. The condition is an issue with your pair.

That being said...I wouldn't dismiss them and relegate them to the garage. I would leave the patina as is, fix the wiring issues, get a shade and enjoy them. The cubist pair is attractive, reminiscent of the Academy Award and though they may not have been top of the line when they were made and dismissed by the experts as junk (who-I might add will dismiss them as junk until they are selling them), surely they are more enjoyable and pretty than 99% of the modern Made in China lamps you can find today. Unless your home is filled with the best of the best, these will probably be some of the more interesting items in an home-bound to generate compliments and envy from visitors who wish they could find anything near as interesting.
It's truly disconcerting that people only seem to enjoy things these days based on what they are selling for on Ebay. You guys are disappointing.

Thank you again for the remarks/insights. Kinz...I appreciate your finding some redemption for this poor pair! I've held them for so long because they are quite interesting to me. Phil..I've seen the uglier ones, too...wow! So, I value them as they are, but am still faced with "value" if I decide to sell them...which I would ultimately like to do since they is no room for them right now.
