When I bought this rabbit they told me it was plaster and I thought it was resin and thought I'd put him in the garden. But after I got him it was easy to figure out it was wood. The top point of his ear shows wood and there is a spot on his belly with paint chipped off that shows wood. Has anyone seen anything similar or know anything about it? He is carved all over with leaf shapes with scalloped grooves in them. He is very large, 23" high about 30" long. I think the paint on his whiskers, paws and nose might be recent.
Very attractive! Hard to tell if it's really old, or done in a more modern, primitive style. I'd keep him out of the garden and in a special place!
Thanks for the feedback. I decided to remove the "decorator" paint from the rabbit. Underneath was a lot of dirt and clay-like soil. Under that is mahogany, and the piece looks entirely different. I have his face, head and ears finished --lots of labor--but he's looking great. Can you tell me what I should coat him with when all the gunk is removed? Thanks again.
so beautiful
