I dug this watch up years ago in a field , I cant exactly figure out what time its from or anything else of the sort, I was wondering if anyone could provide some more information on it but here's what I have found on the watch itself.
-Elgin Giant Watch case co.
14k
S/N 225839
10 1/2
-Timepiece
Roco 15 jewels 2 adute?
Langendorf Swiss
S/N 684464
-Wrist Band
Bretton pat. pend
20 1/2 kt gold filled
You type in "elgin watch" into Google and you look for one that looks similar to yours and see when they say it was made. Or you type in "1920's elgin watch" and then "1930's elgin watch" and so on until you find one similar
Ive done that , i cant find any of them that look like this or one that uses langendorf internals :(
Obviously you're not going to find this EXACT watch. You're looking for similiarities in design and shape. I don't know if I believe you, because I did find one that was the same shape as this one, after about 4 seconds of searching
It looks like you've already got the specifics of the watch right there, what else are you looking for, and why?
im just looking for a rough date and why it has langendorf internals and elgin case
and if its worth anything.
So! Stilwater you think that because RockoM is... "not going to find this EXACT watch"... RockoM may have the only one ever made? why don't you help out our new member as well as others interested in the new knowledge we will gain and show us your find that took you only "four minutes" to locate on eBay ....welcome Rock nice to have you with us....:-)
Thank you :D
I agree, Mani.
WE all like to help with info or links.
Rocko is never going to be a contributing member here.He posted this two days ago and hasn't found anything else to comment on or love...REALLY ? Two days and couldn't find anything to love or comment on...seriously it is nice to be nice but to be used is a different critter all together.
Sorry...I do disagree.Sean we don't all have collecting and sharing love in common.Rocko has not commented on or loved another item here.If he is a collector how could he be here two days without finding something besides his own post that interests him.The watch people out there should be insulted that a "collector" could be here that long without finding one of their items interesting enough to like. There are hundreds of these one hit wonders cluttering these pages. That being said I will bough out of this now.I am willing to agree to disagree.I hope with no hard feelings.
BELLIN68 & scandinavian_pieces couldn't have put it better!!!....:-)
Well, I was going to stay out of this, but I'll drop this tid-bit. First this timepiece is not an Elgin persay, It's a "Roco" with an Elgin gold case. The approxament date is in the mid to later 1920's. It appears that the watch is missing the hands and you didn't state if works or not. In my opinion, which doesn't mean squat, this piece is neat, but you are not going to make a mint on it. The case is worth what spot price is and I hate to say that. The Roco watches from the 20's-30's working will bring around $50-300 on several internet sites. Hope this gives you some insight. I'll hold any judgement calls , until I see something that sways me either way. With that said, I agree with the concept"To give a person a chance"
eye4beauty it may have been CW as Stillwater's last comment was as well!...:-)
Just curious...who are you being played by eye ?
Stillwater and Eye4, I Agree, I just wanted to float this one out. LOL
Stillwater, we all start with one item, inherited or unearthed, and this watch may the start of a new interest for this new member who are we to know.
I started with a chair found at a tip/dump and with out help from others (and still learning from others) I would never have the wonderful collection I have today.
If only 'one item wonder' don't!! comment it will disappear into the background, save your self for the comments that can be helpful to us all!....:-)
I havent thoroughly looked through the community here and I am sorry for that, I just posted this watch looking for any help :) I will be looking around the site when I have more time to do so!
The hands are missing but it still ticks and all the internals seem to be in good shape, and again I am sorry if I've offended anyone by not looking or commenting.
I have a similar watch and bought it at a local City Auction..won it for 65.00. Was pleased..Have seen them occasionally on ebay..Mine was listed as 1955 I think?
Rock, you are great. Please join our community, we are are nice group.
Personally, I don't mind the one hit wonders. Yes, some are just looking for a quick answer. Some inherited family estates and are overwhelmed. Some are just curious regarding a piece they have had forever.
The great part about our community answering the questions? I learn!!!
