This beer stein was owned by grandfather who lived in the St. louis area in the early 1900's. My grandmother gave it to my mother in the 1940's and my mother to me in 1970's.

It is in mint condition as are four other mugs from her collection. This is the most facinating as the image in made by the thickness of the bottom porcelin impression which filters external light through the various thickness of the base of the stein.

If anyone knows about the origin of this stein, please let me know.

Please know that this is not a mug, the proper term would be "stein" or "beer stein".

The first is very similar to yours in style. The second just shows a different lithophane.

I have a beer stein very similiar, yet not as colorful. Mine is only blue and white. I was told it was made in the 1880's by Busch for his brother in laws restaurant, Tony Faust. At one time I saw one like mine sold at auction for over $400.
