I got this bronze bell at a thrift store recently. I can't decipher the maker's mark, and was hoping someone recognizes it.

This is a Soleri Bell, or an Arcosanti Bell. The man's name is Paolo Soleri, he has a foundry in Arizona, he's been making these wonderful bronze bells since the 50's or 60's, but he's still making them today and I don't know if yours is an old one or not. Its missing a little triangle at the bottom that catches the wind, but its still a good find. They're worth some money, you did well. I just found one at an estate sale recently actually.

Thank you very much! I had been wondering also if there were some pieces missing, and it is great to see the other examples of his work online.

You might be able to buy a cheap small one on eBay and take the wind-catch off to replace it. I think yours might be an older or, that or its been out in the weather for a while. The newer ones have this weird fake patina on them. I really love these things. Arizona is my home state and its a real symbol for us, a Soleri bell hanging in a palo verde tree, you know?

I have seen references to the triangular sheet metal wind catchers being made of copper. If so, I will probably try to make one of my own, so I can use the bell. Thanks again.
