Someone tell me something about this? Not for sale! Yes it is broken, I've had this a long time. I can't seem to find out anything about this, if anyone has any information I would love to know something. I am considering getting it repaired.
Hello barnmucker, first let me say, this is a VERY nice piece. Before I make any judgement calls, Is there any markings like "WDE" or "WDP" in the designs?
Well I will make a educated guess....I've never held one or seen this up close, But I believe it might be an early "Mickey" club bracelet. The original Mickey Mouse Club was around long before the "TV" version most people think of. I believe it to be from that era, which would translate to the early 1930's. The designs of the characters are correct and with out seeing the markings I refered to, it could be a copy, which I don't think so. Thanks for sharing this unique treasure of yours.
If you are going to have it repaired, might I suggect, that the silversmith you chose, repair it on the back side and leave the design original and untouched.
I don't see any markings but I don't have anyway to magnify. I have had this for many many years, I'm going to see if my mother can shed some light on it.
I talked to my mother about this piece and she found it in the yard of a farm I grew up on. It was at least 50 years ago that she found it. It was broken when she found it. Some one had thrown it away or had broken in and lost it. I don't know who owned the farm before my parents.
I'm still leaning towards an early version, have seen a couple of later styles bracelets from the "Theme" parks and the graphics of the Mickey and Minnie are totally different. Again the "cartoon" drawings of these are the first style from Walt and that alone would date it around 1929-1939. This (in my opinion) is a very special and unique piece. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I'll see if I can locate one in the Mickey Mouse Merchandise Catalog from 1930's , and see if one is listed.
I also found one of these while metal detecting in Fort Valley, Georgia. It is in one piece but with some corrosion. It is brass with silver plate. The design of Mickey and Minnie is identical to yours.
