I started collecting these prints many years ago. The original portraits of Cupid Awake/Asleep were taken by M.B. Parkinson and the picture is a real little girl named Josephine Anderson.

You might think that a lot of the same picture would be overload but with the different frames and different groupings it really works!

My wife has the little oval ones, about 7" tall with tin frames painted to look like wood. Very sweet.

I have a 5x7 in wooden frame , Cupid Asleep, it says copyright 1897 it also says who it is by , but am unable to read it. on the back of the frme is a about 3x5 sticker that says Tulsa Art store with alot of differnt stuff on it .The picture appears to be of card board. I was wondering if it might be worth something. Would appreciate any info you can give me on it.

      Sharon, The name you can't read is M.B. Parkinson. I checked Ebay and a 5 x 7
is starting at $19.99 and in some cases less. I found out the other day there are cupid awake/asleep black girls and they are rare.

I have the set of prints in wood frames. I want to find out how much they are worth?
    6. ttomtucker ttomtucker, 14 years ago
Lesley, are they the large prints like photo 1 or 2 or the smaller prints?
    7. lesley arthur, 14 years ago
They are large prints each in its own frame
    8. ttomtucker ttomtucker, 14 years ago

I have just purchased Cupid Awake and Asleep. They are precious 7 inch oval prints. On this page you have pictured them in a trio, the middle being that of a mother and child. Can you please identify that print? And is it the same size of 7 inch oval as the two cupids? Thank you, sunhu.
PS The cupids stir lovely nostalgia when a youngster.

I found a mirror that has cupid awake and asleep on it in an old building about 10 years ago. The information on the arrow, date, M.B. Parkinson are consistant with the others. Any idea its worth? Andy

I have "Cupid Awake" and "Cupid Asleep" and "Mother & Baby" in a triple oval brass frame - not hinged - it hangs on the wall. These are copyright 1897 with MB Parkinson on the front of the pictures - not reproductions. The frame is lovely. The frame at either side is 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" and frame in middle is 4-1/2" x 3-1/4". Does anyone have an idea on what I should ask if selling it?

Hello, I have a set of lithos or photos? of Cupid Awake Asleep.
The unusual thing about them is they are done on actual photograph paper, the backside of the Cupid litho/photos is other actual photos on the backsides of them. Marked Western Newspaper Union Pub. Taber Prang Art Co. on the photo'd backsides. The cupids size is 8 1/8" x 6 1/8", the old wood frames are 10" x 7 1/1". I have photos of them , would love to know if these are rare and value.

This is just so fabulous to me as I have copies that I took the original photos form the owners ( One had the awake and the other had the asleep) had made copied and framed and matted them 30 years ago. These are my favorite of all time! The story of how these came about for me is a fun story in itself. I love your collectibles! I am just in awe. Simply just fabulous!

Have you noticed that on the cupid asleep, you have one pose where the finger is upright and one that isn't!

I am trying to find out if my cupid pictures are originals or not. Was wondering if you could help me? My grandmother have these when she was little and she would have been 92 this year.

My daughter and I just bought a cute frame with the "Cupid Asleep" picture - maybe a big larger than 5x7. On the back it says it is No.1893, Copyrighted, Cupid Asleep, Published by Taber Prang Art Co,m Springfield, Massachusetts. It is a little dirty - was wondering the value.

Cupid Awake and Asleep were wildly popular in the 1920's or so. Over 1/4 of US households had this print in some form in their homes. The more valuable prints are with Cupid doing something rather than sleeping or waking….IE: sitting on a branch with an owl in the background …..and other adorable variations. Also a great fame can enhance the value. The most common awake and asleep prints ….have decorative value and not much monetary value ( $20. or so ). As any collectible the condition will affect the price greatly. I have collected these for many years and have about 50 or so . Black cupids are highly sought after and have much higher price range . Once again condition is important ….but that said , one print can go for well over $100. In all my years collecting these ( 100's of flea markets etc ) I have only seen 4 of them and I own 2 of the 4.

I inherited two great cupid sleeps and cupid awake prints in gorgeous oak frames. The frames are wider than the usual size I have seen and have been preserved in excellent condition. Very nostalgic and peaceful scenes.

I have 2 very large Cupid/Aware and Cupid/Asleep prints. They came from my partners' grandparents who tended to buy very expensive art. These are 28 inches tall in lovely wooden frames. How can I tell if they are they original or a print?

Thank you very much for posting these pictures and telling a little bit of their history ! I grew up being told that they were portraits of a distant family member; but as I grew older I began to have doubts about the validity of that particular family 'legend'. Somewhat bittersweet.
