A dutchman left this with with a friend. When I saw it I explained what it is & we are trying to find if it is an original Remington. It is mounted on a marble slab & I guess it's weight at about 15 kilos. The stirrups swivel & the rope is made of twisted wire that may not be in its orig. configuration. I see no number & don't know if they were numbered but it could be under the base.
Out of all these armchair experts, surely somebody knows about these & what it might be worth.
Found that site but it didn't really explain how to tell on a Remington. Still searching. This one is 21 1/2" tall, excluding the marble. Would like to know if there might be a number under the base or if they were numbered?
Have any idea where? I looked fairly closely. The more I looked, the more I didn't see one. (typical remark on the smaller islands)
You are confusing me as this has a bronze base with a marble base added with only 1 screw lug to hold the marble on. Do you mean fakes don't have the bronze base you see here or why would people faking add marble to what would appear orig. otherwise. That doesn't make sense to me.
It's not mine or the neighbour's so it makes no diff. to us other than just trying to find out. Do you know where the number is supposed to be?
I would like to know that I have actually handled a real one.
Very interesting Czechman. I have always loved Remington but after reading that, it dulled my admiration but not my love of his art. His art was always so real to me that I guess I built a fantasy of real 1 on 1 experience as I'm sure most others have.
Andre' is hesitant about my removing the marble as it is not his, but it appears to be a fake. Beautiful fake though. And I was hoping that I had actually put my hands on an orig.. What a let down!
The original is in the President's Oval Office, on the credenza . Check on the net for pics of Oval office and you will see it.
It's very beautiful! If it weren't, no one would copy it. Enjoy.
neat piece, thanks for sharing!!
Wish Andre' would let me take the marble off to be sure but says it isn't his. I'll talk him into it. The nut holding it on(1) isn't rusted.
We appreciate the nice comments & I still wish it was mine as it truly is beautiful.
Season's Greetings to you and Yours on Sint Maarten, Blunderbuss!
i think it's a beautiful copy too and i'd keep it or even pay a fair amount for it. i think that good copies are way undervalued for the aesthetic pleasure they give.
a best childhood friend's great grandfather was good friends w/ remington. their home is full of original remingtons and many of the etchings had little, personal notes on them. they also have an original maxfield parrish sign- 8-10' long - both sides - in their guest house!
Lucky friend. My friend died several days ago & don't know what will happen to the bronzes as he said somebody had left them there yrs ago but didn't say who. It's up to his sons.
Happy holidays everyone.
I was at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana a month ago and one of the exhibits was Remington's bronze statues. Here is the phone number if you would like to contact them and maybe someone could answer your questions or give you a number that someone could help. (317-636-9378) Hope this helps! :-)

officialfuel, it isn't mine but will pass the info to Andre's sons who are here anticipating his demise. It's their decision.
