Picked this up as a treasure chest for my husband. Wondering is anyone has ever seen a trunk like this?

Looks like a circa 1890's flat-top trunk with nice cast iron fingering and slat clamps. The lock looks a little unusual -- a close-up of it would help us in our comments. The corner pieces and slat clamps are a very nice design and signifies a higher quality trunk. What leads you to believe it was made in Ireland? Nice trunk -- thanks for the post!

Hopefully those pics help. The woman I bought it from stated it may have come from Ireland and that's all she knew!

That lock is really unique -- I have never seen one like it before! (would there be a name on the lock or a date?) No doubt it could come from Ireland, the odd thing is is that the US shipped thousands of trunks overseas only to have thousands of trunks come back with immigrants and their belongings. European trunks usually have different features like steel handles and smaller wood slats. Either way you trunk is a nice example with a lock that makes it truly unique. Thanks for your post.
