I knew about the absence of "under God" but was not aware of the earlier one. What's the story?

Well this is the first time the pledge was changed...suggested by the DAR that due to the immigration problems of the time it should be changed from "my flag" to "the flag" to avoid misunderstandings about which flag was intended. This made the author of the pledge furious.

Sorry, it was changed to "the flag of the united states of america"

written by francis Bellamy and published in the Youth's Companion sept.8,1892...1st changed by the help of the daughters of american revolution in 1923,'24.then changed again in the early '50s with help of the Knights of Columbus, adding under god to the pledge...Im sure Francis would have objected again if he had been alive at that time.
