Was told by my Father this was a Midshipmans Dirk of the War or 1812 so I got hold of the US Navel Acadamy Museum and sent pictures and asked them if they could identify it and had no luck and sent picture to a couple collectors of old knives/dirks and had no luck also. I was told it was from that time period and that it could have come from the UK or someplace in Europe since alot of edged weapons of late 1700 early 1800 did. The handle is either Bone or Ivory and have know idea how you would check this. Never found any pictures close to this dirk. I did send these pictures to the Smithsonian Museum but haven't heard back from them yet which I can understand---they probably get 100 pictures a day from people. This Dirk has been in the family for many years and have know idea where my Father got it and guess sometime after WW2 here in the US.

No markings on the blade? No naval markings. Could be a private or civilian type dagger. Spanish or Italian?

Militarist--- Have never found any markings at all myself and have looked close. The only thing I have noticed was the scabbard at the very end of it resembled some British Dirks scabbard ends I found pistures of on the net but nothing else close.
