This sweetheart jewelry pin was made in Australia during WW2.

There was a thriving market among US soldiers to buy these, with the heart shaped items being the most common.

This particular pin was purchased by "Van" and sent to "Mabel"-- most likely from the US as this is where is recently surfaced.

From the front it looks like a jeweler made piece (and the craftsman MAY have been a jeweler at one time), but the back shows that it was cut from a 1943s Australian Florin!

I do not know if Van or the relationship survived the war, but luck was certainly on their side!

Scott, I received a comment on one of my pieces, and I noticed you had commented with a link to this piece. I wanted you to see the piece I found as well: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/187485-australian-trench-art-bracelet.
