Not so uncommon to woodworkers. It is for scribing a line parallel to the edge of something & is obviously adjustable.
I concur with blunderbuss, mystery solved.
Is the thumbscrew metal or wood?
It does appear to be older, but not fancy just something you would find in an old carpenters tool box.
Thumbscrew is wood.Thank You.What is a blunderbuss used for?
If you are referring to line one of my comment, I was agreeing with the man that commented first.
He calls himself blunderbuss, because he owns one.
The blunderbuss is a muzzle-loading firearm, from the 17th century.
With a wood thumb screw, I would think it is quite old, just my opinion though.
This probably is old but keeping this for monetary purposes is not foreseeable. It would make someone a good item to add to an old carpenter's tool box. This can be called a mortise or scribing gauge.
I have 2 brass barreled blunderbusses, hence the name. Going to have to shorten that. Maybe "honky".
Well you learn something new everyday.I have a muzzle loader but its not that old. Funny thing is bringing it in on the airplane on the flight from Arkansas to LA the Airport personnel didn't know where you put the bullets she had to call for help.
