This is an original "Ask Alexander" stone lithograph from my private collection of Magic posters. Circa 1915 It is in "A+" condition exactly as it was the day it was printed off the stone! It is a 1-sheet poster measuring approximately 28" x 42" and depicts a bust portrait of Alexander, the turban on his head incorporated into a striking question mark design. Lithograph by: Av Yaga Bombay

Alexander (1880-1954), born Claude Alexander Conlin, was a stage magician, billing himself as "The Man Who Knows", that specialized in Mentalism and psychic reading acts. He dressed in Oriental style robes and a feathered turban, and often used a crystal ball as a prop.

In addition to performing, he also worked privately for clients, giving readings. He was the author of several pitch books and New Thought pamphlets, as well as texts for stage performers. His stage name was "Alexander," and as an author he wrote under the name "C. Alexander." Retired in 1924 at the age of 43 and was married over 7 times.

The story goes that in the mid-1940s Alexander Conlon sold what was left of his show, along with a large cache of these beautiful posters that had been printed in India to a magic dealer in Ohio who in turn sold them to Leon Giglio a magician who had previously toured under the name Leon Mandrake. After buying the posters Giglio changed his stage name to Alexander and toured for a time in the 50s under that name, using some of these posters to advertise his show.

And he slowly began to leak these "Alexander" posters into the market. Now he has almost flooded the market with them, or with what was left of them anyway.
