Absolutely my most favourite piece. I feel like I must have owned it in a past life or something, the minute I saw it I had to have it. Amethyst is a few carats, for sure, the pendant is about an inch and a half from top to bottom. This is my Amethyst and seed pearl pendant, originally made as a pin or brooch, judging by the solder on the back. Also is double marked, 14k on pendant, 14k on bail, in different stamp styles. A few seed pearls had been replaced over the years, there isn't any indication as to who would have made this, no hallmarks or anything. Would love some insight as to where this could have come from. I say Victorian based on the style, seed pearls were popular, as well as the amethyst being rose cut. My best guess is it is from Europe, made mid to late 1800's. Differing opinions welcome, thanks for looking : )

My opinion, it doesn't look as old as the mid 19thC
And if it was European, you would be seeing hallmarks, and the gold would probably be 15kt
And thats actually not a rose cut..

Your right, it isn't a true rose cut. My best description is a modified rose cut, or rose cut with large table.
I'd be happy to find out it if were North American, I don't have too many pieces of fine jewellery from North American antiquity. But most of the wealth was in Europe 100+ years ago, and jewellers didn't always pay their duties on merchandise, especially if they lived far from the assaying offices.
Because it has had so many owners, I guess I'll never know for sure.

Well America was very prosperous in the late 19th century, that was the heighth of the industrial revolution, there was a lot of wealth here

The rose cut doesn't have a table actually, its a domed crown. Hard to tell from the photos, but that looks like a regular round brilliant with a heightened crown

I don't agree the comment of Stillwater. A lot of times there are no hallmarks on European 19th century jewelry and also 18ct and 14ct is a common alloy in Europe. I have some Amethyst jewels myself (see a.o. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/65615-amethyst-and-pearl-seed-earrings ) and they are'nt real rose cut too.

Stunning collection on your link, Agram.m!! I can see the resemblance in style, bulky and beautiful with delicate accents. They had very good methods of gem cutting for a long time now!
      Thanks for the love everyone!!
