I picked this up at the S. Army yesterday for 18 bucks (plus the two I gave the guy who helped me Jenga it into the car)
It is huge about seven feet long, but I can pick it up. I think it looks a little bit like a sleigh. NO markings but obviously quality work. I will have a new "sling" made for it, including the foot rest part.
I have been looking and looking for who made this and the closest I have gotten is that it looks a little bit like Wendell Castle's stuff.
HELP!!
Did you look in your book yet?
All you need now is sled dogs.. lol
That is quality looking wood work.
I had a very similar chair a number of years ago when I lived up north. The gal I bought it from told me it was a hammock rocking chair.
Not at all something to own if you enjoy a few beers and sitting around after work. Mine made wonderful kindling.
Wonderful!
Fhrjr, had a bonfire last night and thought of you! Kindling...so funny. Actually have a buddy who wants it so I won't be doing backflips when trying to sit down after a medicinal glass of wine.
t really looks like an excellent wood work, real first quality, but it is so weird! Is that a drink holder at its right? LOL LOL LOL
I'm thinking a home project? Amish?
The drink holder is n
What is really throwing me off
Love, the love...thank you
I keep looking at the joints and as far as i can tell from my cabinetmaking studies this is a stunnig work! I think it's probably custom made and the work of a profesional carpenter or an advanced amateur... just look ath the joints in the forth picture!!!
But yes, one of the things I love the mst about it it's the beer can holder!
I love it, but you would have to have areally big space to injoy it. I think the style might be refered to as Prairie Mod. You might check Berthold Schwaiger. I wouldn't get rid of it to fast, it could be a valuable piece. I agree with austrohungaro the workmanship looks like a skilled carpenter and artist.
WOW! That is really cool, looks comfortable and well made, beautiful!
I do not know who made it but it is definately a top shelf piece the quality of the design and craftsmanship says big bucks Scandinavian to me !!,,
american-design/wendell_castle ????
Size is a problem as it is almost eight feet long!
I know a number of Scandinavian and Mid Century Modern dealers and they are all stumped. It certainly has that quality, agreed.

Also, did you notice that big red thing in my garage? It's a snowblower...

Arthur Espenet Carpenter ????
Holey Moley! This looks really similar!!! Gosh you are good!
Are you bragging about your BIG red blower!!! : )
Just did some surfing... I think it is a top piece.
Yes I am.
Apparently you visit Surfers Paradise often, I couldn't find it. Lake Michigan is usually flattish.
We do not need snow blowers down here ... especally at the moment. sunny day pool almost clean for a swim ..
I dislike Surfers it is just high- rise commercialism.. with a beach , though I do go near it to vist my Aunty and there are some good beaches to the south of it. .
Where how etc could you not find it????

Joking about your Internet surfing skills, playing off the well known and available surfing in Australia vs. living in the Midwest of the USA. We only have a giant lake here. Although the effects of the hurricane have created 25 foot waves today.
DOH! ....
bET THERE WOULD BE SOME KEEN INLAND SURFERS RIDING THOSE BIG ONES TODAY. . i CAN RECALL BEING CRAZY AND BODY SURFING HUGE WAVES B
oops caps lock on !!
efore I realized that they could kill me!
Oh yea they were out there. Looked great. The water right now is warmer than the air. Still seems chilly to me, dropped 20 degrees Fahrenheit last night. Not quite freezing but trick or treating might require a warm cocktail!
just doing some more searching .. this itme for Wendell castle and came back to here!

I have done that before too! Or I look at images to learn different shapes/types of things...easier to spot at thrift, then see either my pictures or CW pics!
yes . CW does get their images high up on search engines.
Just saw your chair on http://www. 1stdibs.com, listed as a mid -century teak hammock chair:)
Omgosh you would have a blast laughing your butt of at me falling out of that contraption. LoL
