This is a Chrome & Bakalite Coffee Set w/ Tray with an Art Deco influence.
Has a very space age/rocket design. Wonderful angular lines.
Found it at an antique street sale last Summer in Oregon City, Oregon.
I've found chrome is hard to photgraph, but hope you can see the details that make this set so eye-catching.
Chrome is in very nice condition but the overall condition is not perfect, there is one of the 'bun' feet on the tray that is missing and the spout handle is broken.
We usually don't buy when there are condition problems like this, but we made an exception this time because we felt the design of this set was so stunning...and the price was so reasonable!
Amazing! Any idea who made it? Hallmarks?
Oh yeah....sorry about that.
It's made by Manning Bowman & Co USA "M Means B Best" TM
Thanks, Bellin68, for the link....very interesting. I knew nothing of this maker when I found this set, but it was obvious to us that this was quality made and had wonderful design elements. It was just one of those things that you can not pass up because you might never see one like it again.
We got to this street sale really early and this coffee set was just being set out at the first booth we came to. We knew if we didn't buy it right then and there, someone else would take it home.
Magnificent!!!
Finally someone posted something on here that is actually Art Deco! This was produced only in the late 1920's to perhaps 1930 when they were discontinued. This went for something like $75-$95 - a fair amount back then which is why only the wealthy could afford them. Known as the "Rocket" set and quite desirable. Very nice set.
Thanks, thnman, for the info on this set. I didn't know much about it other than it is one of the best REAL Deco sets I've ever seen. I fell in love with it and just had to buy it, even though it wasn't as prefect as I usually like to find, but the looks were stunning
