When I saw this vase, I immediately thought it was a variant of Ausführung 226 because of the colors. But the shape and dripping electric blue decor both look quite Art Nouveau. There is a vase in this decor at the Passau Museum, with a placard that states it was made between 1901-02. I had hoped to locate the shape among the line drawings, but nothing was close enough, so I am unable to pin it down to a year of production. Before I saw the Passau photo, I came to a conclusion that it was most likely made slightly after the Art Nouveau period, but prior to the Deco period, perhaps 1905-07. I am still leaning this way. I would really like to find one in an identifiable shape, so I might know the year of manufacture, and possibly even a decor number or name. This vase is 7.5 inches high, and about 4 inches wide at the middle. There are 3 pinches at the rim and 3 indentations at the middle. I was informed that a similar vase was at the 2011 Dorotheum auction, and that piece had an acid etched Czecho-Slovakia mark, which places the year of production after 1918. This helps to narrow down the period somewhat. Perhaps the forms can be found in the new Loetz II line drawings book.
Superlative!
Striking design!
STUNNING BEYOND WORDS !
wow you've got a couple drop dead gorgeous pieces this week
love it!
Truly amazing piece of Loetz. This is definitely eye candy to drool over.
This one has everything you could want. Amazing piece, David. :)
Hi David,
This is a later Loetz decor strongly related/repeated to the older Gre/353 without the dotted lines.
I also noticed the resemblance to that decor, Kairomalte. I have been shown some more photos of other pieces similar to mine, and I may actually be able to date it better from those other shapes.
I have edited both the title and description for this vase because it now appears that this decor is later Art Deco period, I am going to call it an unknown Ausführung, rather than Phänomen.
Nice one D!
my kind of glass both deco and something else...
Love this very much David:)
Thanks Sean, it's one of my all time favorites, and I love a mystery. I have it "front and center" in my best cabinet.
