Artist signed hand painted vanity tray. The back is marked Limoges France. I think it's beautiful with fine gold paint & amazing details. It has a chip in it which is no big surprise since everything I find is usually damaged! But I am struggling to find out a likely date of creation. If anyone could give me an idea that would be great. TIA
Joseph Yeschek was associated with Pickard early in the 20th century. He was born in 1866. I can't see the second line of marks on your piece well enough to tell who the maker was and I don't know off the top of my head if and when he may have worked at other places. But this should give you some idea as to the age of your piece. You can see some info about him and an example of his Pickard work here, at the bottom of the page:

Hope that helps a little. :-)
What a beautiful tray! Another triumph for vintagemad. The gilding pattern looks Art Nouveau-ish to me, but once introduced a stylish motif can persist beyond the period in which the original 'style' it 'attended' attained popularity. I've seen the border motif a number of times on old Limoges pieces, but couldn't place my finger on a sample in a 30 minute search tonight. I don't have any Limoges reference works at home, either. There are many good ones. I did a quick search of the artist, and discovered this first link. (There were no pictures.) Second and third links to some Limoges hallmarks. I cannot see your hallmark well enough to venture any intelligent opinion as to maker or specific date range. Best wishes for success! : )

Ah! chinablue! So sorry - began typing about 30 minutes ago, and didn't see you until I posted just now! : )
*LOL* We did it again. If you stop back by here, would you take a look at a some hallmarks on a flask if you have some time?? Vetraio50 and I both are thinking pseudo marks.

Thank you China & Mikko for such a quick response & helpful links. Always a pleasure, Nik
You're most welcome, vintagemad!! : )
Chinablue, I don't have an intelligent opinion on your mystery flask, but that didn't stop me from hypothesizing for my friend, or stop me from posting a longish link. : )
Oops - it's late: I meant a "longish comment".
We are lucky to have such a great community that are such experts. I would have just thought super pretty, nice find!
