A friend of mine gave me this belt buckle. Bet ya can't guess why! The back says B. Baron Buckle. The diamond at the top has three Bs in it. You can see the rest. What is the best way to clean this? I am sure I can get the tarnish and the grime off. Are these worth anything? I know they made all sorts of buckles back in the '70s.

If you are still looking for a safe way to clean the buckle, USE KETCHUP!

I found this article, of which I copypasted the instructions, while checking to see if ketchup was safe for brass. I have always used it for copper and wanted to be sure before telling you. Says it's good for gold too.... :D

If you do not want to use harsh cleaners, as they can sometimes damage and deteriorate the brass, use ketchup. The slight acidic quality of the ketchup cleans the brass and gold wonderfully without causing any harm to the surface.

      Difficulty: Easy
      Instructions

      Things You'll Need
      Ketchup
      Cleaning rag
      Water
      1
Squirt a spoonful of ketchup onto a dry cleaning rag. Work the ketchup into the gold or brass surface.

      2
Leave behind a thin coat of the ketchup. Let it sit for a minute or so.

      3
Rinse the cleaning rag and wring it out. Wipe the brass or gold to remove the excess ketchup. Continue until you have removed all the ketchup.

      4
Buff the gold or brass dry with a clean, dry rag to achieve a clean, polished shine.
