These two bottle vases were first produced in 1976. The amber one seems to be a rare exemplary. Amber was not an official color in the catalgue of 1976. The official colors were clear, blue and red. Nevertheless it's evident that the amber vase is Wiesenthahlhütte because its surface is very characteristic and identical to the blue vase which is model number 2070-A in the catalogue of 1976.

The blue vase has the form of a "bocksbeutel". This is a specific form of wine bottle which is exclusivley used in the German wine region of Franconia (here some pictures: http://j.mp/bocksbeutel) It's allegedly named after the form of the scrotum of a goat which in former times was used as a vessel.

The phase after 1970 marks the beginning of the late time for Wiesenthalhütte. As other glass factories they tried to battle agains new concurrents in experimenting with new industrial production methods. In this case the glass was thrown into very cold forms which, by the difference off temperature, led to the "hammered" structure of the surface.

The amber one stands 24,5 cm high, the blue one 11 cm.

You're WH collection is becoming an amazing one!!! I didn't know about the surface being related to pouring the glass into cold forms. So interesting!!!

I hope the year started fine for you! ;)

There is a book with Klaus Breit's memories. I don't possess it, it's rather rare and expensive. He speaks very much about techniques and decisions he took as the owner of Wiesenthalhütte. Some chapters are reprinted in the big Wiesenthalhütte-catalogue, only in German, I am afraid. Happy new year to you, too! The year started well: I bought a very beautiful Lindstrand-decanter and some other little items. I am missing your posts on CW!

You are right, vlkma238412, Wiesenthalhütte has a real originality, and it's strange that not very known in Germany itself.
