The last glass purchase for 2012, made on New Year's Eve day. It arrived at my door in under 48 hours from auction's end. This was listed as an unknown, and I just happened to spot the photo during one of my tedious searches.
1904 Series II, Production Number 1775 "Cephalonia mit Patinadekor". This is different than my other Cephalonia, which lacks the verdigris treatment at the top. Cut and ground rim (no pontil), 4 3/4 inches tall. Just a little feller.
The paper pattern photo was taken from Loetz/Series II by Jitka Lnenickova
That's not patina - that's jealousy. Seriously great find. :)
Thank you, Warren. 2012 really was a good year for me. Lots of nice glass added to my collection, a few new collector friends, even one in Croatia, and got my back fixed to boot. No complaints from me for the year. Let's see what 2013 has to offer ;)
Congratulations on a great find!
He's a cute little feller! I want one! I keep looking for one of these to add to our collection but it seems the moment I get busy (cooking, Christmas shopping, wrapping, shipping, taxes, Birthdays, end of year reports...) and don't have time to do the tedious searches is just about the time when one of the best deals of the year surfaces and I miss it! Great purchase and I too am verdigris with envy! Congratulations!
Is it painted on the inside rim? Interesting.
It's enamel applied to the outside of the top. And it's put on in layers. The raised decoration is painted a gold color, and the green patina is painted on over it. Not cold-painted though.
Very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
