    Figural Vase by Ernst Wahliss
    Bohemia, circa 1900
    12.5" high

Wahliss was both a seller and producer of fine ceramics. His Vienna store purportedly had the largest porcelain offering in Europe at one point. He also had stores in Paris and London. He had a long intertwined history with Amphora, which is why you will find his ceramics in the books on Amphora. You can read about this history in Monsters & Maidens: Collector's Edition by Dr. Byron Vreeland, the exceptional Amphora collector and scholar.

This particular vase is featured in Monsters & Maidens.

Could you send a photo of the base? The face is so similar to a piece I listed today as a mystery. I wish I could include a photo and get your opinion.

      Hi Victorian,

I don't own this anymore and don't have a photo of the base. I suggest that you do a search for Ernst Wahliss marks. You will easily find the two or three most common ones. I looked at the piece you posted. I haven't see that form until now. It's possible that it's Wahliss given that now and then Wahliss pieces are not marked. But I would be that it's not Wahliss.

Amphora Pottery, Thank you for that information. I would have responded earlier but I didn't receive an email of your reply. I'm always interested in doing the research. I usually spend a couple of hours trying different search terms depending on perceived country of origin or something very similar. You gave me a good start.
