This is a ''Kalebas'' (gourd/squash) vase. Designed in the early 20's.
The amber one is mine. The others come from the web.
It's a big vase, close to 50 cm high.

The Dachau story is tragic.
So many great designers were exterminated.
It's tragic. He could have saved himself though. He chose not to.

i know that is why i didnt buy it yet they are not getting any cheaper thoug!
be patient and you'll find one, art is love.
I once (1989) bought one at a Trash & Treasure market here in Canberra Australia about 6am . Paid the princely sum of $23 beat the vendor down from $25. I did not know what is was and did not have the internet back then , In bed much later that night with a book of glass marks ...Ureka!! Chris Lebau .. but no way of knowing what it was worth . Ia couple of weeks later I decided I had to sell it whan a friends youngster came into my hause with asuperball!!! eek even though it was up high well out of tiny peoples reach a super ball could have got at it - I sepperaated the superball and screaming kid , (think I still may have the superball maybe give it to his first child who is due soon ) .
Adealer friend offered me $800 and I took it , regrets ! sob.. now see them in Museums. If memery serves me well the top was slightly different smaller and it also had Unica on base. aswell as CL mark.
Thank you for the memories.
Sorry for bad spelling and typos
bye the way mine was purple
That's a very different vase. CL means Andries Copier and Unica means one-off.
To be honest those 2 markt were never used on an item at the same time.
If it was a Unica, his name would have been there too, fully written.
This Lebeau has a valu of 500-900 euro, depending on the colour. Purple was best.
A good and early Unica could bring up to 40.000
1 euro = 1,35 usd
Hi bazelmania i may have got it wrong about the Unica mark being on the piece as I'm pretty sure it was a Chris . Will have to see If I have aphotograph.. (yes one of those old things of paper etc) .
A what ?? :-))))
Yes, let me know. I'm curious.
Hi Marty and Jan. I spoke to the dealer who bought the Lebeau from Marty. He told me that he had sold it and it returned to Europe. A Lebeau Leerdam Unica from that brief period when he was working co-operatively with Copier. I'd love to see that photo, Marty!
EEEK! where are those photos !!
Come on Oz, my curiosity is way up!
I just waded through four large bins of photos ..A life time or two... searching for the right one .. found 2 pix but none of the mark... arrrgh!!
Sorry it remains a mystory....
I now have an amber one too. It arrived from the States today! Very happy!
Tell me all about it Vetraio50 !!
Welcome back mate!
Thanks. I'll try to submit some new items. How are you?
Very well. Actually Marty and I each bought an Amber Kalebas. He got his from New Zealand and I got mine from the States. We bought them within a day of each other. Marty put his up on CW so I did not bother with posting mine. I probably should do so. At the moment I am going through some postcards of Belgium and posting them on CW.
