This Buddha is from Burma. It has some age and condition issues, but is still beautiful. i just bought it last night. I have no idea how old it is, nor how valuable it is, but i paid around $100 for it and it's about 45" tall and 17" wide.
beautiful statement piece -- great price -- i had to pay $1200 for the carved girl i posted a couple of months ago on cw
Very beautiful!! I love it!!!
thank you epson233 and toracat.
I think that this is 19th century - a Burmese Mandalay Standing Wooden Buddha decorated with Thayo lacquer and glass mosaics. the outstretched hands with palms up is unusual. the size is also exceptional.
They are very pricey the one I have and others I've researched. Very special and blessed to own it and thanks for sharing yours.
How do you care for yours? Like dusting or other info you can pass along for me. Mine is Gold Gilded so perhaps the care would be different
i just dust it w/ a feather duster. i had mine appraised at a large auction house. They told me that it was probably 17th century, possibly early 18th century and it was appraised for $4g-6g, which was a very pleasant surprise. it's very beautiful. I think mine is silver gilded. I have a large, gold-gilded, bronze foo dog which i simply dust - no polishing, as that would remove some of the gilding.
actually, i don't think it is silver gilded, or it would have oxidized. not sure how the silver color remains silver. ??
