Found this while cleaning out the big safe. The company that was presenting the estate sale was told by the family that it was by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, but I'm not so sure. I can't find much woodwork by him, and the stylization is different. Its all hand inlay work, brass and mother of pearl. Theres an impression in the red velvet on the bottom, words in an oval, but its not legible.
Anyway, just thought I'd share this neat piece. Does it look familiar to anyone?
It's a really nice box.
Jugendstil?
Or
Arts and Crafts?
Check out Ernest Gimson. Let's see what the others think!
Ah yes, I see some little marquetry boxes he made, with mother-of-pearl too. I'm going to search for one with brass
You're right, its probably Jugenstil. It has a European feel to it as well.
Thanks again V!
Thanks Phil!
Yes I got this years ago and found it while cleaning out my safe the other day, always thought it was real neat
