I'm new to this site but have started collecting antique/vintage toys and or anything unusual. I came across this at a garage sale and have not been able to find more information about it. I'm not sure if it's original or a repop. It's solid wood and appears to be hand painted. The man driving has a mustache. I know the car is an open race car of sorts. There doesn't appear to be any markings anywhere on it. The wheels go all the way through the wood. I usually deal in 70's or 80's toys but I think this maybe from the 50's. It is very detailed and I figured someone must know something. The guy looks so familiar. Someone said Marx but all the ones I saw were tin so I'm begging for help.

The intricate wheels make me doubt the age suggested.

your probably right. I know it needs to be cleaned so I'm not sure if the colors are brighter or darker.

What you have is a modern decorator item.

They were sold at Hobby Lobby and similar stores.

I thought about that too but there are no markings of any kind, no labels, or made in. Also wouldn't a Google image search have brought that up in some way? It appears to be hand carved and I can't find it in any catalog. I'm not saying your wrong but can you give me some more information or a website where it can be bought?

I don't mean to sound negative and I'm sure everyone has more experience and I. Want to say thank you for your help.

I don't have a link for you-- my opinion is based off of SEEING these at Hobby Lobby in the past.

You can find numerous similar ones posted on this site.

I have the same car. It was a gift by my parents. But this car is really new. It seems to be made by wood but it isn't. It's a kind of fiberglass. And do not clean the car!

OK, Its not that I don't believe anyone but this one does look older and I'm pretty sure it is wood (85%) but I saw the same one on a pan over on American pickers and it says umscheid motors. Any ideas?

Resin construction, Decor piece. I have the Bugatti listed in my section. Could be at least 20 years old because I bought mine at a second hand store about that long ago.

The info posted is correct, a modern decor item. Hundreds of different ones have been sold over the past 15+ yrs at stores like Hobby Lobby and World Market stores. I have never seen markings on any of them.
I first saw smaller ones like showing up at high end furniture stores as decor items back in the early 80's.
