Silverunde…
(7 items)
Hi Everyone,
I need serious help on this one. I bought this many years ago at a tag sale, because I love penguins. However I was cleaning it up the other day and noticed the U S S R, and the other mark on it. I've checked several silver sites and can't find this mark, It kind of feels like sterling but???
It stands 3 1/2 inch with handle, then about 2 1/4 inch [cup], 2 3/4 wide.
The enamel of the penguins goes ALL around the cup.
I love this piece, and would just like to know a bit more history on it, age, if you think it is sterling, what it was used for, and especially that other mark...what does that represent????
Anyway, Thank you in advance to all for helping me out :) :)
Tina
Sorry! no help to you but!..Looooooooove it!...:-)
Hi,
I see the question has been posted looong ago, but just in case the mystery hasn't been solved... These are Soviet (approx. 60-70s) glass holders. There are several versions of the same penguin theme in yellow (brass), black and silver metal (cupronickel or German silver). These are beautiful pieces which are rare to find in good condition. The mark ??? stands for the manufacturer (Leningradski Jewellery Workshop(?)). I've just bought a pair of mine today and they are extremely cute!
Hi, Mariia_Caramia. :-)
I don't know if Silverunderwater is still around, but I like it when mysteries are solved. So, a Russian tea glass holder. It makes sense.
Here's a set of four:

Penguin Tea Glass Holders This lot of 4 authentic vintage Russian Enamel Tea Glass Holders with glasses looks FANTASTIC! Each holder is a unique piece of art with its own filigree enamel pattern. The bottom of each glass holder is marked “MADE IN RUSSIA” and is also marked in Cyrillic equivalent to LYUM, which is attributed to Leningrad. The inner diameter of the glass holder is 2 5/8” and the glass holding depth is 1 1/2”. The height of the glass holder handle is 3 1/2" and the width, including handle, is 4”. The included glasses are also vintage but are not the originals because they were made by the Federal Glass company. They do not fit the holders exactly. The diameter of the glasses is 2 7/16” and the bump out diameter is 2 9/16”. The glasses alone stand 3 5/8” tall.
