...the R as you call it -- looks like it could be a Double R -- or even a mixture of letters like " D I R " all signed on top of/besides each other

It's not the seal of an archive, Strathmore is the brand of the drawing paper: http://www.strathmoreartist.com/about.html
wow great , it could of been around 1899 or so ,
thank you noob
Whistlers mother !!! Mr Beans holiday!! Lol
sorry had to be said :-)
Cool drawing , Scottish paper , poss a monogrammed initial & does look like
French Peasent woman , written in English so poss uk or usa artist ..
Theres a website - google "artist signatures in monogramme " there in the letter R is a very similar mark , its a log in site so you'll poss have to register to get the artist name ..

Looks like a "Matronly Peasant Woman in a Bonnet", or a "Pioneer Women in a Bonnet", or a "Colonial Women in a Bonnet" to me
Not sure IF these sites will help or not:

antiquerose thank you ,very much
Well thank you very much for the comment I was hoping it was worth something
i think it,s rather posh Strathmore paper between 1900-1920, i think the pencil sketch is not the best , see the shape desynchronization of the eyes and the lips , still very cute
Thank you for the comment I'm not sure who would sign it With just the letter r
Hello collectors and thank you again for the comments Would anyone know who would sign with just the letter R thank you
