the cannon is almostthe same as a 3 inch ordinance civil war era type cannon i cant seem to get a clear picture with my camera but will try to find someone with a better picture camera

I have a 3" C.W. Ord. Rifle but still can't tell because of fuzz. By the way, 3" is 75 m/m. I'm thinking the famous French 75. Never heard of a C.W. lighter as matches were a fairly new innovation then. What would they have used for lighter fluid? Must be getting late. I just tried changing channels with a cell phone.

It is typically described as a WW1 trench art lighter. These were popular souvenir items during and after the War. There are many different sides that were used-- most military related or patriotic but some with scantly clad women.

Do a search on ebay for "trench art lighter" and you will see many other examples.

And scottvez strike again! Knew it had to refer to the French 75 but I have been wrong before, -- well once anyway. LOL

Larger table top (and counter top) gas cigar lighters were around in the 19th century, but pocket "flint" lighters are a 20th century item.

      Here are some examples:

Glad to help. Ebay is a great tool in determining the rarity of a particular item..

Often folks post "rare" "one of a kind" items on here and a quick ebay search will reveal many of the same item being offered on ebay!

Keywords are important when searching. "trench art lighter" will yield many results, and if you search ebay over the next month or so it is likely that your EXACT lighter will appear.

One caution about ebay. Many folks use it to value items as well.

Ensure that you use "Completed Auctions/ Sales" to get an idea of values.

Many folks see an item priced at a high amount (not sold at that amount) and then value their item at the inflated price.

Remember sellers can ask ANY AMOUNT for their item-- the key is what the item or similar examples ACTUALLY SOLD FOR.
